Nashville tech start up showcasing over 1000 local businesses expands its service to the community by releasing a free app. BuyLocal fosters a direct and personalized connection between online shoppers and small businesses by putting local shops directly in front of customers while they shop online and on mobile.
In March 2021, a year after America’s initial shutdown, 34% of small businesses were still closed. BuyLocal was developed to support local businesses in response to the financial strain of COVID-19. The ‘BuyLocal’ app’s algorithm works behind the scenes to notify shoppers of local shops that carry the products they're looking to buy and display only local businesses instead of retailers such as Amazon, Wal-Mart and Target.
Users set their search radius and location to explore products and services of local shops, makers, markets. They can filter search results by category or search specific products and services using the search bar. Users can browse categories such as art/handmade, clothing, health/fitness, beauty, farms/gardens, and more. Within the BuyLocal app, users access business information, share local businesses, and even recommend new local businesses to add to the platform.
After the release of BuyLocal’s web app, the number of users doubled within two months and currently has over 500 users. In its first month of launching, BuyLocal had nearly half a million social media views. Find the free BuyLocal app in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
